Olivetheboy, whose real name is Joel Ofori Bonsu, is a Ghanaian Afrobeat singer and songwriter from Konongo in the Ashanti Region. He was born on October 19, 2002. He blew up in 2023 with his viral hit “Goodsin” and is now signed to Sony Music’s Columbia Records.
Before Fame
He grew up in a musical household, his mom is a former singer and his dad is a Presbyterian pastor. He started making music seriously in 2020 after finishing high school.
He enrolled at KNUST to study Metallurgical Engineering but dropped out to pursue music full-time. His mom was so frustrated with him skipping school to record that she nearly called the police on him. He joined Loop Music in 2021 and released his first EP “Tanga-Reen.”
Career
Olivetheboy started making music seriously in 2020 after high school. In 2023, he released the EP “Avana,” and the song “Goodsin” went viral on TikTok after Ghanaian dancer Endurance Grand created a dance challenge for it. The track became the most-searched song on Shazam in both Nigeria and Ghana.
Later in 2023, he signed a deal with Columbia Records, part of Sony Music Entertainment. In June 2024, he won Afrobeats Song of the Year for “Goodsin” at the 25th TGMA.
By early 2025, he had crossed 100 million streams on Audiomack. He released his album “Out of the Blue” in 2025 and put out new singles “Akua Broni” and “Lala” in 2026. He now has close to 800,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
