Florence began her acting career at 17 with her debut in the mystery drama The Falling (2014), acting alongside Maisie Williams. This was her first professional audition, which she secured after submitting a tape on her mother’s suggestion.

Her performance earned her nominations for Best British Newcomer and Best Young British/Irish Performer.
Her major breakthrough came in 2016 with the independent film Lady Macbeth, where she played Katherine, a young woman trapped in a loveless marriage who turns to murder.
This role won her the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress and a BAFTA nomination. Following this success, she was recognized as a “Star of Tomorrow” and received the Evening Standard Breakthrough of the Year Award.
She continued to build her career with roles in the ITV drama Marcella (2016), the thriller The Commuter (2018), the Netflix historical drama Outlaw King (2018), and the BBC miniseries The Little Drummer Girl (2018).
In 2019, Florence gained international fame with three standout films. She portrayed wrestler Paige in Fighting with My Family, earning the London Critics Circle Film Award for British/Irish Actress of the Year. Her role in the horror film Midsommar showcased her dramatic range and received critical acclaim.
Her portrayal of Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women was a career-defining moment, earning her nominations for both the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2021, Florence joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova in Black Widow, starring alongside Scarlett Johansson. She reprised this role in the Disney+ series Hawkeye (2021) and is set to appear in Thunderbolts (2025).
