Early Life and Education
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Michael was the son of Elaine, an Emmy-winning poet, television producer, and playwright, and Calvin Madsen, a firefighter and Navy veteran.
Growing up alongside his two sisters, including actress Virginia Madsen, he developed an early passion for acting.
He honed his craft at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, working under the guidance of John Malkovich and appearing in plays like Of Mice and Men.
Career
Madsen began his career with television roles on shows such as Miami Vice and Quantum Leap, and minor film appearances in WarGames and The Natural.
His major breakthrough came with Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs (1992), where he portrayed the unforgettable Mr. Blonde. He went on to star in notable films including Kill Bill, Donnie Brasco, and the Free Willy series.
