Early Life Education
Hozier was born in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland on 17 March 1990. His father, a banker and jazz drummer, became paralyzed when Hozier was six, causing financial struggles for the family.
Hozier started writing songs at 15, taught himself guitar, and sang in his school choir. He attended Delgany National School and later St. Gerard’s School before studying music education at Trinity College Dublin. He missed exams to record demos for a music label and was denied a deferral by the college.
Career
While at Trinity College Dublin, Hozier joined the Trinity Orchestra and the choral ensemble Anúna from 2009 to 2012. He sang “La Chanson de Mardi Gras” on Anúna’s 2014 release Illuminations.
