David Kenneth Harbour, born on April 10, 1975, is an American actor famed for Jim Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things (2016–2025), earning two Primetime Emmy nominations. Key films include Hellboy (2019), Violent Night (2022), and Gran Turismo (2023). He plays Red Guardian in the MCU (Black Widow 2021; Thunderbolts* 2025) and voices Eric Frankenstein in Creature Commandos (2024–present).
Before fame
Harbour launched his career on Broadway with the 1999 revival of The Rainmaker. In 2005, he earned a Tony Award nomination for his role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

In 2016, he received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for Stranger Things. He portrayed news anchor Elliot Hirsch on HBO’s The Newsroom and CIA agent Gregg Beam in Quantum of Solace.
Family life
Harbour earned his degree from Dartmouth College in 1997 and has one sister. He wed pop singer Lily Allen in 2020; the couple separated in late 2024. He had prior relationships with Maria Thayer and Alison Sudol.
