Avril Ramona Lavigne, professionally known as Avril Lavigne, born on September 27, 1984, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She helped bring pop-punk into the mainstream, especially music that blended punk elements with a female perspective in the early 2000s. Her awards include ten Juno Awards and several Grammy Award nominations (eight).
Before fame
She started singing at age two. After her father built a home studio in their basement, she began performing at county fairs.
Trivia
Her breakout single “Complicated” earned her the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist in a Video in 2002.
Family life
She has an older brother, Matthew, and a younger sister, Michelle. Lavigne married Deryck Whibley on July 15, 2006; they divorced on November 16, 2010. She was later married to Chad Kroeger (of Nickelback) from 2013 to 2015. She dated Phillip Sarofim from 2018 to 2019, then entered a relationship with rapper Mod Sun; they got engaged in April 2022 and separated in February 2023. In early 2023 she briefly dated rapper Tyga.
