Jessie Buckley, born 28 December 1989, is an Irish actress and singer. Her honors include an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, an Actor Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Laurence Olivier Award.
Before fame
She earned Grade eight distinctions in piano, clarinet, and harp through the Royal Irish Academy of Music, then joined the Tipperary Millennium Orchestra. She won the AIMS Best Actress award for Julie Jordan in Carousel, produced by the Killarney Musical Society.
Trivia
After her role as Anne Egermann in the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, she graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2013. She broke out with the lead in Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things. In 2026, she won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture Drama as Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet, followed by the Best Lead Actress Oscar, making her the first Irish actress to claim this honor.
