Early life and education
Coombs grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he was born. To express himself more effectively, he joined the school choir, and soon after, he was given the role of Rum Tum Tugger in the musical Cats. To assist him prepare for the part, he rented a film of Elvis Presley performing live. Coombs has citizenship in both the United States and Canada.
Throughout his time in high school at University Hill Secondary School, he continued to perform in theatre roles. He finally enrolled in the acting curriculum at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
