OG Maco, born Benedict Ihesiba Jr., was an American rapper known for his hit single “U Guessed It”. He signed to Quality Control Music in 2014 and was featured in XXL magazine’s 2015 Freshman Class. He founded the hip hop collective OGG and released an EP in 2016 as a tribute to Kid Cudi.

Early Life of OG Maco

OG Maco, born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr. on April 23, 1992, in College Park, Georgia, developed a passion for music during his teenage years. He co-founded the label OGG (Originality Gains Greatness) while still in high school.

His early musical endeavors included being part of a band called Dr. Doctor, where he played guitar and sang. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for his future in the hip-hop industry.

Career

OG Maco gained significant recognition with his 2014 mixtape Live Life, which featured the breakout single “U Guessed It.” This track reached No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a viral sensation, helping to propel his career forward.

OG Maco later signed with Quality Control Music, a label known for its roster of successful artists.

Despite facing personal challenges, including a serious car accident in 2016 and a battle with necrotizing fasciitis, OG Maco continued to create music and connect with his audience.

Health Issues

OG Maco faced significant health challenges throughout his life. In 2019, he was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, a rare and severe flesh-eating disease that affected his face and scalp.

This condition arose after he was improperly treated for a minor rash, leading to a long and painful recovery process. Despite these struggles, he continued to create music and inspire fans with his resilience.

OG Maco Death

Tragically, OG Maco passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 32, following weeks of hospitalization due to a gunshot wound to the head.

He had been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on December 12 and fell into a coma shortly thereafter. Despite medical efforts, including brain scans and toxin removal, he could not be revived.

His death was surrounded by speculation regarding the circumstances of the shooting, with reports suggesting it may have been self-inflicted.

His family confirmed the news of his passing, expressing their devastation at the loss of this vibrant talent in the hip-hop community.
