Taylor and Laura Bassett were Bassett’s parents when she was born and reared in Oceanside, California. He was homeschooled and has five sisters.
Over ten years before he played Ricky in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, he had his stage debut at the age of eight in a community theatre performance of High School Musical on Stage!.Since then, Bassett has played the lead in more than 30 musicals. When he was 16 years old, he came to Los Angeles to begin his acting career and temporarily lived in his car to make ends meet.

In the 2019 musical series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, he played Ricky Bowen. He was originally exposed to musical theatre at the age of seven, before playing Ricky in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
When Bassett played J.V. Jock No. 2 in a local theatre production of High School Musical. He has since appeared in more than 30 musical productions. On the 2016 television family comedy series Stuck In The Middle, Bassett made his acting debut as Aidan Peters. At age 17, he played Rickey Bowen in the first episode of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

He co-wrote “Just for a Moment” for the music of the series with co-star Olivia Rodrigo, according to Playbill magazine. In 2020, he released “Common Sense,” his debut single. He released “Anyone Else,” his second single, in the same year. In 2021, he launched his self-titled first extended play on March 12 with the lead hit, “Lie Lie Lie”.
